Business Innovation Group (BIG) Global Shared Services (GSS) Info Pack
The UNSDG Business Innovation Group (BIG)’s Global Shared Services (GSS) portfolio comprises 16 standardised, scalable services designed to reduce fragmentation, consolidate operational functions and unlock system‑wide efficiencies across the UN.
These offerings span fleet management, mobility and accommodation, medical and wellness support, HR and payroll solutions, procurement, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) hosting, digital identity, asset disposal and treasury services, each managed by specialised UN entities, including the World Food Programme (WFP), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and UN International Computing Centre (UNICC).
In 2025, BIG intensified efforts to streamline service provision, advocating for consolidating procurement, payroll and ERP platforms into one or two interoperable providers, while addressing institutional resistance related to staff reassignment and reskilling.
GSS remains the highest-priority efficiency stream, supported by KPIs, cost models, environmental impact data and growing client uptake, and is calling on entities to increase global sign‑ups to prevent duplication at the country level and strengthen inter-agency operational coherence.
