Speaking at the UN Food Systems Summit +2 Stocktaking Moment in Rome, the UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed announced the launch of a new initiative to tackle investments in food systems.

In 2022,  as many as 783 million people in the world faced hunger, with women and people living in rural areas disproportionately food insecure. Our food systems are failing to deliver food security. It is clear that to change this situation, we need trust and collective action.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Monday that he deeply regrets Russia’s decision to terminate the Black Sea Initiative, in effect ending a “lifeline” for hundreds of millions worldwide facing hunger and spiralling food costs.
