NDC Insights Series: A Decade of the Paris Agreement
More than ten years since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, countries' climate pledges, the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), are advancing ambition and action across sectors and doubling down on rigorous implementation. A new compendium of insights from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) captures key trends of new-generation NDCs submitted by 128 Parties to the Agreement in 2025.
This issue spotlights experiences from countries that were supported by the UN system under the Climate Promise Initiative 2025. Under the convening role of the UN Resident Coordinator and the technical leadership of UNDP, UN teams supported 61 countries in the formulation and submission of their NDCs.
Insights across 10 thematic areas show how these NDCs have strengthened focus on economy-wide climate action, deepened country ownership and social inclusion, included economic and social gains and reflected a higher level of credibility that encourages investment. Overall, the new generation of NDCs have reinforced a commitment towards multilateralism and greater international cooperation.
